Why Coaching is the next frontier for 3%

The 3% Movement made its mark through conferences from 2012-2022, raising awareness that diversity = creativity = profitability. With female creative directors up from 3% to 29% in that decade, there was a lot to celebrate. Yet when large events became challenging to host safely, the 3% team took some time to reflect how to keep our mission moving forward.

Now that 29% of leaders – not the usual suspects – were leading inside companies not built by or for them, there was both an opportunity and a risk. Rather than shape-shifting to fit old paradigms, these new leaders will be far more valuable – and happier – if they follow their own instincts, visions and gifts.

How? Through coaching.

Coaching provides leaders with the gift of time and focus to tune into their own wisdom. It can be utterly transformative, yet is somehow considered optional, or even a luxury. Everyone benefits from coaching and everyone who wants to be coached should be able to be access this valuable resource.

Research shows that creative industries are under-coached. 42% of the ad industry has never had a single coaching session. This is unacceptable.

So a bunch of coaches who hail from the creative industries banded together to create the 3% Coaching Coalition. Our aim is to rebrand and democratize coaching so that everyone’s gifts can be most fully felt.
